The drive-ins – iconic in so many 50’s movies. As a millennial growing up in rural Canada, I never had the opportunity to experience one. I did hear many stories over the years from my parents who spent late nights in the bed of a friend’s truck, sipping soda, and munching on popcorn, as a classic movie lit up the night sky. Can you imagine my complete excitement when I moved to Perth and discovered an amazing operating drive-in theatre right here in Perth that oozed “Grease” vibes? Located in Kingsley, just 20 minutes north of Perth’s CBD, their huge red neon sign is the first thing you will see upon approaching Galaxy Drive-In Theatre. This retro Perth drive-in, will have you convinced you’ve entered a time warp to the 1950’s.
As well as a spacious car park where you can enjoy the movie from the comfort of your car, this Perth drive in cinema also has a café with a great selection of hot snack foods to fuel all you hungry moviegoers. You can also bring in your own little carpark picnic if you fancy, which is exactly what I did.
For an awesome and very memorable experience at the drive-in movies Perth, I would pack a few key items:
- Depending on the temperature, you will most likely want to sit outside your vehicle, so definitely pack some folding chairs.
- For comfort, you can never go wrong with heaps of pillows and blankets.
- If you have a truck, you can even pack an air mattress for extreme next level comfort.
- Having a glow in the dark football or frisbee makes the time fly by when you have kids.
- Lastly, if you don’t want to take home mosquito bites as souvenirs from this Perth drive-in cinema, make sure you pack some bug spray.
As there is usually a long queue of vehicles waiting to enter, I would recommend getting to the Galaxy drive-in Perth a tad early to secure a good parking spot with ample view of the screen.
Perth’s only drive-in theatre is open every Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for all your date nights, family movie nights, or just a fun activity to do with a group of friends. The gates open at 6:45PM, and the movie starts at 7:45PM. Galaxy drive in Perth also offers a special deal every Tuesday where the price of admission is only $22.00 per car.
