‘Briefs – The Second Coming’ is one of Fringe World’s most iconic shows, and having seen the hilarious all-male drag burlesque/cabaret/circus ensemble for the past three years at Fringe, I can say that Briefs has been one of my all-time favourites to look forward to each year, this year being no different!
Hailing from all over Australia, the seven Briefs Boys are legends at Fringe World, having performed in Perth for eight years straight, and bringing this same show to life for five of those years. This is clearly highlighted through the expertise and delivery of the acts and the connection between them, leaving you breathless.
The show is headlining at The Rechabite, an uber-cool new Northbridge venue which I thought was a perfect pairing for Briefs – once you feel the atmosphere and see the giant ‘We Are Made of Startdust’ sign you will understand! The stage is small and the show is intimate, which makes every laugh and astounding moment amplified by a hundred.
Each of the seven boys takes on a different persona who appears and re-appears at different points in the show to show off their amazing skills – whether that be thrilling acrobatics, laughter-inducing comedy or captivating burlesque. Throughout the evening, each act was even more shocking and outrageous than the next, and although a few acts went that little bit toooo far for me, I can’t deny that the whole time I was either awe-struck of these guys’ amazing talents or laughing like crazy.
At each Briefs show, as per tradition, they host a ‘special raffle’. I won’t say too much to ruin the surprise but if you’re at the show, make sure to purchase a ticket! The prize is not to be missed…
Featuring a little bit of full-frontal nudity and whole-lotta man-abs, prepare for a night of laughter and debauchery at Briefs. The show is perfect for a night out with the girlfriends, although I would recommend to leave Nan at home for this one (unless she’s as naughty as you!). And if you’re planning on sitting in the first three rows – bring an umbrella!
