Summer is well and truly upon us, Perth – and it’s not the 35-degree days or the realisation that my car aircon needs a service that makes it obvious. It is, however, the fact that The Dock Wharf Bar has finally dropped its sails for yet another season, that has me reaching for my havaianas and collection of straw hats.
If you’ve yet to venture portside (or you’re a local that prefers the comfort of being under a rock) – let me give you the rundown. The Dock is nestled away in Freo’s iconic B Shed and captures Australian summer to a T; great views, great drinks, and most importantly – great vibes. Styled like you’ve just stepped off Richard Branson’s yacht and onto a tropical private island, this pop-up venue is the perfect place for a relaxing lunch, a sundowner with the work crew, or a Sunday sesh that takes you through to Monday.
The Dock experience begins at the main bar, where you can pick your poison from the impressive drinks list that shows off the serious quality of our state’s beer, wine and spirits. The perfect example of how The Dock flexes WA produce is in their “Cyclone Sabre” cocktail, a refreshing combination of Matso’s Ginger Beer and West Winds Gin. Warning: this cocktail will fill a part of your soul that you didn’t even realise you had.
Now, let’s talk food. Prepare to treat your tastebuds with a feast from the ultra-cool Eat no Evil, followed by ice cream from Roho Bure (or vice versa, there’s no judgement here). Make sure you give the loaded potatoes and honey-comb ice-cream sandwich a shot. Delish.
With a drink in one hand, taco in the other – and the sun setting over the Indian Ocean, it’s time to boogie the night away and live out your #summergoals. Get in quick Perth, this not-to-be-missed pop-up will be setting its sails for hibernation on January 1st.
And yes, it’s worth the drive.
