Keeping it real in our City

We’re solving the “it’s up to you” debate this Valentine’s Day

We’re solving the “it’s up to you” debate this Valentine’s Day

Oh yes, we ALL know the one and let’s be honest, it’s happened to the best of us. Maybe you’re indecisive, maybe you can’t be bothered, maybe you just don’t know? Whenever one of those three things come into play, we pass the decision-making baton onto our partner and usually – it doesn’t end too well. Well Perth, we’re here to save the day, V Day that is – by eliminating the risk of any arguments and making your date night decision an easy one!

We’ve compiled a list of a few of our favourite places around town - the best spots to be this February 14. So, in no particular order at all, here are our favourite  FIVE Valentine's Ideas.

1.  The Lookout

The Lookout Bar Bowling Bites in Scarborough is the (not so) new kid on the block. Taking place of the old Matisse and situated on our beautiful Scarborough Beach, it really is the place to be this V Day. Bar, bowling and bites – the name says it all. With one great menu, two big bars and eight first-class bowling lanes, you really can let the good times roll! The DJ will be pumping the tunes, pizzas will be half price and happy hour is between 5pm and 6pm. Open till’ late and with everything you need in the one place, The Lookout is the perfect date night venue for you and your numero uno.

2.   Wembley Mini Golf Course and 300 Acres

This combination is a personal favourite of mine. I’m not quite sure how many times I’ve visited, but I know it’s been a fair few. Now correct me if I’m wrong, but nothing says ‘I love you’ quite like some healthy competition, and when you combine that with amazing food overlooking the pristine green at Wembley Golf Course – you’re in for one hell of time!

The 18-hole miniature golf course is reasonably priced, beautifully kept and has three skill levels, so it’s suitable for our beginners and our Tiger Woods wannabes. There’s also speakers at every hole, playing tunes to keep you entertained as you make your way through the course.

When you head on in to 300 Acres after your game, you’re absolutely spoilt for choice. The hand-cut chips, croquettes and mash are among my top picks at this great restaurant, but you’re honestly safe with any of their delicious dishes. Plus, if it’s a nice night – try and book a spot on the deck.

So, no ifs or putts – make sure you put this date night duo on your list!

3.   The not-so-typical Cinemas

Heading to the cinema is your ‘typical’ Valentine’s Day date, and I’m sure we’ve all spent a V Day or 20 watching the latest rom-com whilst snacking on some fresh, buttery popcorn. But what if I told you that there’s a different kind of cinema you can head along to this year? I’ve got your attention now don’t I?

I’ll start off with the outdoor cinemas, which are totally in abundance in Perth right now. All you have to do is pack your picnic blanket, a pillow and your favourite snacks (or hire a bean bag and buy food there) and you’re on your way! Here’s where you can find the outdoor cinemas and here’s what they’re screening on February 14.

  • Telethon Community Cinemas Bassendean screening A Star Is Born. Details here.

  • Telethon Community Cinemas Burswood screening Crazy Rich Asians. Details here.

  • Telethon Community Cinemas Murdoch screening Instant Family. Details here.

  • Moonlight Cinema Perth in Kings Park screening Crazy Stupid Love. Details here

  • Luna Palace Camelot Outdoor Cinema in Mosman Park screening A Star Is Born. Details here.

My next type of cinema is still outdoor, but this time, we’re heading to the rooftop!

The Rooftop Movies are situated at the top of the multi-story carpark at 68 Roe Street in Northbridge.

There’s no need to bring any picnic blankets or pillows for this one, as everything’s already there for you. You are in fact welcome to bring your own food – but there’s PLENTY to choose from there.

So basically, all you need to remember to bring is yourself, your partner and your cute and cuddly attitude. You can catch a screening of Sorry To Bother Youthis Valentine’s Day on the roof! For more details, click here.

4.    Yagan Square

Ahh, one of the hottest precincts in P-Town right now and rightfully so.

This central hub has completely changed Perth, opening up the space between Northbridge and the city. With cafes, bars, events and celebrations – you’re always in for a good time at Yagan.

If I were to name them all, we’d be here forever – but for the perfect date night dessert, I’d definitely suggest giving The Cookie Box or The Honeycake a go.

Throw in a Fringe show at The Laugh Resort at The Shoe Bar with some dinner and voila! V Day is sorted! Plus you ghet 20% off your meals at The Shoe with your Fringe tickets (but your fave human doesn't need to know that!)

5.    Scarborough Sunset Markets

Praise the heavens above that Valentine’s Day falls on a Thursday this year, because that means one thing – Scarborough Sunset Markets!

These markets are a foodie’s dream, and if you’re like us and love the beach, well you’re in for a treat.

Catch the beautiful sunset over Scarborough Beach with a drink in hand, as you listen to live music, browse through the funky pop-up stores and indulge in one of the 20 international cuisines and multiple local delights on offer.

Try and get there early, because this popular spot sure attracts a crowd!

Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing and whoever you’re spending it with – we hope you have a LOVEly time in this beautiful city we’re all lucky to call home.

Lauren Higham

I’m Lauren, and I’ve lived in Perth for the whole 24 years of my life!

By day, I’m the Social Media Coordinator at the wonderful City of Stirling and by night, you’ll find me craving Maccas chips, Denada ice cream or Banjo carob bears and watching crappy reality shows on TV. My favourite Friday night consists of watching footy on the couch with some snacks, and on the weekends, I thoroughly enjoy things such as sleeping in, heading down to the beach and yoga. I'm a bit of a neat freak who loves things being organised, and I’m a big fan of living as green and as naturally as possible.

I love getting out and about in this great city we call home; Hawkers Markets, Farmers Markets, Hopman Cup, a Wildcats game, the BBL, movies, a music event, restaurants, cafés – you name it, the list goes on. Perth is seriously getting so cool, and I love seeing it grow!
