Keeping it real in our City

Review: The Mercy

This month, Studiocanal invited Perth Happenings to an advance screening of The Mercy - a story of courage, trials and an unexpected ending.

Colin Firth and Rachel Weisz share the incredible, heartbreaking and true story of Donald Crowhurst, an inexperienced English sailor setting out as a participant in the 1968 Golden Globe Yacht Race - a round the world, uninterrupted voyage.

As an inventor and a lover of sailing, Donald sets his sights on the world voyage as an adventure he cannot let pass. While his family awaits his return with sometimes months in between calls, we feel their every low, their celebrations, and their unease.

Donald deals with the fear, desperation, and delusions of a lone sailor aboard a ship which perhaps never should have set sail - in what could be my worst nightmare - storms, loneliness and more.

If you’re a believer in chasing your dreams, stories of courage, life challenges and more - oh and, a Colin Firth or Rachel Weisz admirer - this one’s for you!
