Keeping it real in our City

IWD - Women in Perth I adore

It is no secret that I am a woman. It is also no secret that I am a woman who goes after what she wants. One thing I work to promote as much as possible however is those who inspire me, are driven and truly do wonderful things.

Here is a small sample of those women, all hand picked by me and truly people you should check out!
In no particular order...

Di Starr

Manager, The Laugh Resort (@thelaughresort) + Freelance PR

"To me, being a woman is not a great deal different to just being a person (who happens to get paid on average 15% less than the rest of the population). It means helping others for their sake and not your own. It means raising other women up and not putting them down. It means celebrating the success of one woman as if it were the success of all women. Because together we are stronger. Together our successes will one day close the gender pay gap, she said optimistically..."

I met Di through the social aspect of Perth Happenings and have worked with her professionally. It was only a matter of time however before I saw what a kind, caring, hard working and gentle soul she was and quickly worked hard to become her friend - and I 'think' I've made it! When it comes to PR in Perth- specifically comedy and culture, you could not find a more amazing and harder working woman. Di is leading the way for The Laugh Resort to once again be the powerhouse it was in previous years and I could not be prouder to work with her.

Stacey Dadd

Gluten Free Baker Extraordinaire
@Champagne and Gumboots

"To be a woman in today’s world really excites me. All I have to do is look around me, at all the amazing awe inspiring women I know, to be reminded of just how powerful we are. A lot of them are successful business women, even more are mothers. And hell if being a mum doesn’t make you appreciate just how damn strong you are, I don’t know what will! It really is inspiring to see the new heights we as women are reaching in all aspects of our lives. To see so many of us working together, to raise our babies, build our empires and be caring, wonderful people, it’s pretty damn special."

Stacey was one of the original Perth Happenings bloggers and was an absolute rock at times I felt it was never going to work. Stacey will give 110% to everything she does. She is one of those truly inspiring people who have a heart of gold, but you know won't be friends with you if she doesn't want to. I have watched Stace grow her business to something that is thriving beyond anything I could have imagined- being a gluten free cake maker (is that the right terminology!?), to the point she no longer had time to be part of the team. The day Stacey handed in her notice was a very sad day indeed. She is quirky and funny, has an infectious smile and makes some freaking amazing treats! Love ya Stace!

Chelsea Badger

@Littlek Photography

"To me, being a woman means being strong, capable, emotional, valuable and powerful. Because anything you can do, I can do bleeding."

I met Chelsea at our Shop Local Perth launch night. I was researching for small business owners who had something a little different that I wanted to have as part of the SLP family and there she was. Chelsea is a gorgeous person who is not only talented, but if you follow her on instagram, you can not help but fall in love with her body positivity, love of life and determination to overcome obstacles (including wearing a moon boot at Falls Festival and taking amazing photos!). Chelsea is a woman that I hope my children would grow up to meet. She is smart, sassy, loves herself and is one of my IG girlcrushes :)

Lou Fitzpatrick

The Anxiety Project

"What does being a woman mean to me? To be honest (because thats my jam ) the first thing that comes to mind when you ask me what it means to be a woman, I think “A whole lot of f*cking work!!!”  But, you know what? I wouldnt have it any other way. Because with that whole lot of work, comes a whole lot of satisfaction and opportunity along the way. The ups and downs, the challenges and triumphs, the doors that open, the doors that close. The people you meet, the places you go, the love and pain that you experience as a woman, as a mum, becoming a mum...there are no words. Through all this hard work as a women, as a mum, as a wife, as a perthgirlboss and as a friend, have all lead to me growing as a person, growing and contributing to being the best woman that I choose to be! Happy International Womans day everyone...  I became a firsttime mum on this day, 2 years ago (how fitting to give birth on International Woman’s Day ). And WOW, becoming a mum has changed my life."

I met Lou at a small business owner networking event where I was speaking. Often you meet people and they have this energy that you can not help but want to have around you at all times and as often as you can! When we met Lou was very pregnant so I have not had a chance to catch up with her physically again, but just via online channels and messages, I have truly fallen for her spirit, her love for life and her passion for growing support for those with anxiety. Check this super Mum out- you will not be able to stop giggling.

Sun-Mi Clyburn

Singer, Producer

"Embracing my womanhood means embracing the cyclical nature of life. Womanhood means being fearlessly creative. It means strength, determination, sensuality and compassion. It means feeding and nurturing those I love. It means having the awareness of my body's life-growing power. Unfortunately, to me being a woman also means knowing which of my shoes would allow me to run away the fastest. It's always taking the best lit path. It's people seeing my breasts before they see my face."

Sun-Mi and I connected on social media before meeting in person. We had a common interest and that was being a strong advocate for mental health. Sun-Mi invited me to speak on her radio show about Mental Health and from the moment I heard her voice in person I could not stop wanting to learn about this sensational woman. Sun-Mi is inspirational in the way she shares, combats and lives her anxiety and speaks of depression. Her Fringe Show- Audiotherapy was one that moved me beyond tears (check it out here) and I love to listen and hear everything Sun-Mi says. She shows a strength that truly is one of a kind. I would go as far as to say that we are now friends outside of social media and I couldn't be happier.

Pieta Sharpe

Hi there, I'm Pieta. I'm the boss lady here at Perth Happenings.

I love getting out into the community and asking all the quetions - who, what, when, where, why and how. We have been growing Perth Happenings to support the small local businesses and events that perhaps can't afford large scale exposure and this is my passion.

We work with only locally based businesses so we can keep their families with income, conversely if you work with Perth Happenings you are keeping my children in soccer - it is a win win!
I have a team of amazing bloggers and look forward to introducing them to you - Thanks for supporting us.
