Keeping it real in our City

House of Leda

‘Leda’ in simple terms means woman, and after reading this blog – everything will make perfect sense.

Imagine a collective store, home to an amazing array of handmade products, ALL locally designed or made by West Australian women. Pretty special, right? Now imagine getting to browse through that exact same array of products, after a delicious brekky and coffee.

Well people of Perth, imagine no more - because that’s EXACTLY what House of Leda is all about.

From homewares to haircare, skincare and stationery, things for kids and things for the kitchen, products for a baby and products for your body, prints, jewellery and so much more – House of Leda is the perfect place to treat yourself or treat someone else. Taking up the front space of our beloved Peppermint Green cafe in Joondalup and having a second home at the wonderful Hatched Coffee in Kingsley, there’s no excuse not to give this store a visit.

There’s nothing better than buying a little something after indulging in Peppermint Green’s delicious pancakes, and I can vouch for this first-hand. Having already bought a gorgeous little pot from Pot It Like It’s Hot and a seriously nourishing and refreshing cocoa mint lip balm from Sage Botanicals, I’m totally guilty of loving House of Leda and all that it stands for. And by the way, if you’re in need of a new lip balm, you really cannot go past this one. Justine told me it was awesome and she was so right! It has the most AMAZING flavour and it feels SO nice on your lips – but the best part? It’s NATURAL! No kidding, I’m rolling that bad boy across my lips at least 10 times a day because I love it THAT much.

If you’re in need of a last minute pressie, House of Leda has you covered. Doesn’t matter if it’s a birthday, Mother’s Day, Christmas or even a baby shower – all of the products are affordable, and it’s so rewarding knowing that your purchase is supporting our local gals. When they’re so incredibly creative and talented– why would you not?

You can shop online, and Afterpay is available (just to make things a little easier). But to be completely honest, I think the best experience is when you’re there in person.

Owners and mother and daughter, Lorraine and Justine have so much passion when it comes to this business and you can totally tell. “Along the way, and after getting to know the brands, we found these women to be incredible. Some are doing their part to contribute financially to their family, spending the only time they get to themselves, working on their brand. Others have had massive personal setbacks but have worked hard to overcome them, building something beautiful from a bad situation. Others are simply trying to educate the public about the harmful products we are putting on our bodies and what alternatives are safe and better for you. Some just love what they do. Every brand you see has a story which makes each and every product special and made with so much love and care”

House of Leda is such a small space, but boy does it have a lot to give.

Lauren Higham

I’m Lauren, and I’ve lived in Perth for the whole 24 years of my life!

By day, I’m the Social Media Coordinator at the wonderful City of Stirling and by night, you’ll find me craving Maccas chips, Denada ice cream or Banjo carob bears and watching crappy reality shows on TV. My favourite Friday night consists of watching footy on the couch with some snacks, and on the weekends, I thoroughly enjoy things such as sleeping in, heading down to the beach and yoga. I'm a bit of a neat freak who loves things being organised, and I’m a big fan of living as green and as naturally as possible.

I love getting out and about in this great city we call home; Hawkers Markets, Farmers Markets, Hopman Cup, a Wildcats game, the BBL, movies, a music event, restaurants, cafés – you name it, the list goes on. Perth is seriously getting so cool, and I love seeing it grow!
