Keeping it real in our City

Mandurah Boardwalk

I don't know about you, but I am so glad to be seeing the sunshine again after what felt like the longest winter ever! Isn't it great to not be cowering under a puffy jacket and a thousand layers of clothing every time you leave the house? Hello, spring!

Something I've always enjoyed on a sunny weekend is to get myself into the centre of Mandurah and enjoy all it has to offer. The sparkling estuary water, the buzz of all the people out and about enjoying the great weather. You can't help but get a bit high on life.

Recently, I very happily attended the Mandurah Boardwalk Market summer opening. Hands down, its location cannot be beat. It's really central and it's nestled between the Reading Cinemas, Hans Cafe and the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre (Ormsby Terrace, Mandurah). Just so you know, if you're anything like me and you're all about whether you'll get a good parking spot, wonder no more! There are plenty of spaces, especially if you get there nice and early. Yes!

The markets have a wide range of stalls on any given Sunday (they are open through the warmer months from 9am to 2pm). You can find almost anything! You can find cupcakes, candles, fantastic food, activities for children, baby gifts, photographic art, fishing gear, plants, gorgeous unique homewares and clothing (for both humans and their pets!) and more.

The atmosphere is just fantastic. The smell of delicious food cooking away for happy customers, the sounds of families laughing and chatting as they wander through. There are a few tables and chairs, under nice shady umbrellas, where you can sit for a little while and enjoy a coffee and/or a bite to eat. As I soaked up the much needed Vitamin D on my latest visit, I grinned to myself. This is the kind of thing that reminds me so much about why I love where I live. Mandurah might not be the sleepy little seaside town it used to be, but it's still got that amazing weekend holiday charm. It's so close to Perth, too. Perfect day trip!

The Mandurah Boardwalk Markets are the perfect place to begin your Sunday and a great place to start your Christmas shopping.

I will definitely be back many times before this summer is over.

Keri Arkell

Hi! I'm Keri. People often call me Kez and I don't mind it at all. I blog over at Awesomely Unprepared about my life. The ups, the downs and the many awkward moments. Trust me, there really are many!

I live in Mandurah with my Little Mister (born in 2011) and my husband. And his bicycle - no kidding. It lives in the middle of my hallway. We've talked about this.

I've resided here on and off (mostly on) since I was about 5 years old, so as a result I feel like I know everyone. Or I know their mums. Or I know a friend of a friend of whoever you ask me about. Even today, I met my brother in law's best-mate-from-school's mum and didn't even realise it! After all these years and a lot of growth, I love that there is still a sense of close knit community.

Well...except for those moments when I think I'll duck down to the shops wearing my worst clothes on washing day, with no make up on and I run into just about everyone!

Also, confession time: I'm a shameless social media addict. I will snap, Instagram, Facebook post, hashtag everything, and make bird noises (tweet tweet) or it didn't happen. I'm all about sharing the love and shouting from the rooftops about all the amazing people, places and events I come across in my local travels - YAY!
