Keeping it real in our City

2018 MINI British Film Festival

Mini British Film Festival

The Mini British Film Festival returns for its sixth and biggest year yet, running in Perth from 25 October to 14 November at Cinema Paradiso in Northbridge. The festival boasts 26 brilliant films starring many of Britain’s most well-known stars and we were lucky enough to head along to the preview and watch My Generation.

My Generation is a documentary, narrated by Michael Caine, that explores the cultural revolution that took place in London in the 1960’s. You are transported back in time through archived footage and interviews with some absolute legends, including Paul McCartney, David Bowie and Twiggy.

Caine claims that the 50’s in Britain were dull and his was the first generation rise up and encourage a change in the rigid class system, opening up opportunities for working-class creative types who no longer submitted to the pressures of smoothing out their roughness.

I think this documentary would affect people differently depending on their age. Maybe you lived through the 1960’s and it’s a nostalgic walk down memory lane. Or maybe you’re a Millennial like me and your parents listened to this music when you were a kid? Either way, if you have a keen interest in music, I can guarantee you would enjoy seeing how bands like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Who completely changed the industry and pathed the way for young musicians.

You won't just find My Generation at the festival however!
